
How a Zapier Team Member Vibe-Coded a YouTube Workflow

For more than six years, David Quintanilla managed Zapier's YouTube channel.
Over time, he became the unofficial upload button for the entire company.
At its peak, David was handling 15 to 20 video upload requests every month. Each request came with its own trail of Slack messages: update the title, change the thumbnail, adjust the description, and move the publishing date.
None of these tasks were particularly difficult.
But together, they created a workflow that depended on one person being in the middle of every video.
David wanted to change that.
The Solution: A Self-Serve YouTube Upload Tool
Instead of looking for another off-the-shelf tool, David used Claude Code to build his own solution.
He started by explaining the problem to Claude in plain language. Claude then proposed the architecture for a self-serve upload system.
The result was a simple workflow where team members could:
Log in securely with their Google account
Enter their video details
Upload a thumbnail
Submit the video for publishing
Manage the process without ever needing access to the YouTube channel password
David also added an AI-powered SEO panel.
When someone uploads a video, Claude can generate three potential title options and an optimised description based on the video's topic.
What previously required David to coordinate requests across Slack can now happen through a self-serve process.
The biggest transformation wasn't simply that David built an app. It was that he removed himself as the bottleneck.
Instead of spending time processing upload requests, chasing information, changing thumbnails, and coordinating publishing dates, the team can now handle much of the process themselves.
The workflow runs without David having to be the person who pushes every button. And AI isn't just helping with the automation. It's also helping improve the content itself by generating SEO-focused titles and descriptions.
The Bigger Lesson
What I find most interesting about David's story is how did he approached the problem.
He didn't start by thinking he needed to learn how to code an application. Instead, he started by recognising a repetitive problem and thinking about how he wanted the process to work.
